The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Akwa Ibom State Coordinating Office, is set to collaborate with Solidaridad a Non Governmental Orgainsation (NGO) to enhance traceability systems in Nigeria’s palm oil sector. This was announced during a two-day workshop on palm oil traceability held in Akwa Ibom State recently.
The workshop, organized by Solidaridad, aimed to strengthen the capacity of state-level stakeholders in developing robust and locally relevant traceability frameworks that align with Nigeria’s emerging national traceability strategy. The event was anchored by Mr. Ekene Chukwu and his team, who guided participants through key discussions and planning sessions.
Participants included members of the state traceability committees from across the National Initiative for Sustainable and Climate-Smart Oil Palm Smallholders (NISCOPS) landscape. The Akwa Ibom State Coordinating Office of RMRDC is a core member of this initiative.
In his opening remarks, the State Coordinator of RMRDC, Mr. A. J. Akpan, expressed the Council’s readiness to partner with Solidaridad and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a seamless traceability process within the state’s palm oil sector.
“This collaboration will not only enhance transparency and sustainability but also strengthen our positioning in the global market,” Mr. Akpan stated.
The workshop served as a platform to promote deforestation-free palm oil production, reinforce supply chain accountability, and facilitate multi-stakeholder collaboration. Outcomes from the event are expected to support Nigeria’s ambition to access green financing and meet international market standards, particularly those of the European Union.
The initiative underscores a growing commitment by both local and international partners to build a more transparent and environmentally sustainable palm oil industry in Nigeria.
