The Chartered Institute of Power Engineers of Nigeria (CIPEN) has expressed its desire to partner with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in the area of exploring alternative energy in Nigeria. The National President and Chairman, Governing Council of the Institute, Engr. Israel E. Abraham made this known when he led members of the institute on a courtesy visit on the Director General of the RMRDC, Professor Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso, in Abuja recently.
Engr. Abraham stated that the desire of the Powe Institute to partner with the council was in recognition of its position as Nigeria’s focal point in raw materials development and utilisation, which promises to signal the establishment of novel resource-based industries to bolster sustainable industrial growth in Nigeria.
“It is on this premise that a virile power sector becomes indispensable to take Nigeria through the path of steady industrialization utilizing the Council’s research results” Engr. Abraham said.

Responding, the RMRDC DG, informed the guests that the Council has embarked on a nationwide study to determine the quantity, quality, characterization of raw materials in Nigeria. He stated that global attention was rapidly shifting to energy raw materials because of its huge economic potentials. According to Prof. Ike-Muonso, RMRDC must refocus its operational structure to place energy raw materials development and utilisation on the front burner.
The DG expressed delight at the prospect of collaborating with the institute, emphasizing that a partnership between RMRDC and CIPEN must be driven to produce a win-win outcome for both parties.
