In its efforts to contribute significantly to the Federal Government’s efforts at ensuring food security in Nigeria, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has expressed its readiness to partner with the National Apex Of Nigerian Farmers Cooperative Societies (NANFACOS) to boost the supply of high quality agricultural products to farmers across Nigeria.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of RMRDC, Prof Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso gave this assurance when Executive Committee members of the farmers cooperatives paid a courtesy visit to the DG in his office in Abuja.
Prof Ike-Muonso while welcoming the visitors pointed out that with the strength and spread of the association, a major challenge of the Council’s boosting program has been solved.
The DG further stated that with the proposed partnership between RMRDC and NANFACOS, the identified gaps in previous boosting programs will be addressed as the Council will focus on clusters of farmers using available raw materials in their particular environment for effectiveness rather than pockets of farmers in different locations.

Prof Ike-Muonso assured the visitors that RMRDC has what it takes to leverage on its networks to facilitate grant applications to funding agencies as well as promote Business 2 Business (B2B) with key stakeholders and development partners.
Speaking during the visit, the National President of NANFACOS, Hon. Nwaogwugwu informed the DG that his association is the apex body of Cooperative farmers in Nigeria and has the responsibility of promoting agricultural activities of its affiliates in the 36 states and FCT through capacity development, linkages with relevant partners and agencies.
He added that NANFACOS is made up of over 21,000 primary and secondary Cooperative Societies with more than 48 million individual farmers across the country.
