The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has celebrated the retirement of Mr. Nezianya Obiora, a dedicated officer whose decades of service contributed significantly to the Council’s operational efficiency and infrastructure management.
At a send-forth ceremony held on May 4, 2026, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Coordinating Office, staff members, colleagues, and family gathered to honour Mr. Obiora following his retirement from active service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
Until his retirement, Mr. Obiora was widely recognized for his technical expertise and commitment to duty. Before his posting to the FCT Coordinating Office in 2025, he served as Head of the Facility Management Division at the Council’s Headquarters, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing facility maintenance, electrical systems, and operational support services critical to the smooth functioning of the organisation.

Speaking at the event, the FCT State Coordinator, Mr. Olatubosun Olajubu, commended Mr. Obiora for his unwavering dedication, professionalism, and invaluable contributions to the Council over the years.
According to him, Mr. Obiora’s commitment to excellence, particularly in the management of electrical installations and generator systems at the Headquarters, helped ensure uninterrupted operations and improved workplace efficiency.
“His contributions to the Council’s facility management functions have left a lasting impact. He demonstrated remarkable technical competence, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility throughout his years of service,” Olajubu stated.
The ceremony attracted staff from the FCT Coordinating Office as well as members of the Facility Management Unit from the Headquarters, many of whom shared fond memories and testimonials about Mr. Obiora’s work ethic and mentorship qualities.

Colleagues described him as a dependable professional, a team player, and a mentor who consistently encouraged collaboration, accountability, and mutual respect among staff.
The event was also attended by his son, Mr. Nezianya Patrick Afamefuna, who represented the family and expressed appreciation to the Council for honouring his father and recognizing his years of dedicated service.
Responding to the tributes, Mr. Obiora thanked the management and staff of the Council for the support and opportunities accorded him throughout his career. He reflected on his professional journey and noted that his redeployment to the FCT Coordinating Office during the final phase of his service provided him with valuable time to prepare for retirement.
He also advised younger officers to remain committed to their responsibilities and to begin planning for life after retirement early in their careers.

In a light-hearted remark that drew laughter from attendees, he said, “I am retired but not tired yet, and I would gladly accept offers for any electrical work.”
As part of the celebration, gifts were presented to the retiree by the FCT Coordinating Office and the Facility Management Unit. The ceremony also featured goodwill messages, group photographs, and informal interactions among staff and guests.

The occasion served not only as a farewell to a retiring officer but also as a celebration of a career defined by diligence, technical excellence, and selfless service. Through his years of commitment and professionalism, Mr. Nezianya Obiora leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire both current and future generations of RMRDC staff.
