The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has presented a plaque of honour to the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Professor Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, in recognition of his unwavering support for the association’s activities and programmes. The presentation was made during a courtesy visit by members of the association to the Council’s headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the event, the Chairperson of the FCT Chapter of NAWOJ, Mrs. Bassey Ita Ikpang commended the DG for his consistent support towards initiatives aimed at promoting professionalism, gender inclusion, and the welfare of women journalists in Nigeria.
She noted that, “This honour is in appreciation of the DG’s commitment to fostering collaboration between the media and public institutions, as well as his contributions to the advancement of developmental journalism.”
Presenting the plaque, the Chairperson of the association described the RMRDC’s boss as a strong advocate of media partnership and institutional support, adding that his encouragement had contributed significantly to the success of some activities organised by the FCT Chapter of NAWOJ in the recent past.
In his response, Professor Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso expressed appreciation to the association for the recognition, describing the award as both humbling and encouraging. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to maintaining cordial relations with the media, particularly professional bodies such as NAWOJ, whose role in national development and public enlightenment remains invaluable.
The DG further emphasized the importance of responsible journalism in promoting national growth, industrial development, and public awareness on the vast potential of Nigeria’s raw materials sector.
Members of the management staff of the Council, consisting of the Director of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs (DCA), Mrs. R.C. Nnamdi-Anum; the Deputy Director of the Gender Mainstreaming Unit (GMU) Dr. (Mrs.) G.U. Abidoye, the Chairperson of the African Raw Materials Summit (ARMS), Mrs R. Kotso, as well as some representatives of the association, were present at the occasion.
