The Zamfara State Coordinating Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) has intensified efforts to drive industrial development as the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Zamfara State, Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammad Tumbido, strongly emphasized the need to accelerate cassava processing and value addition in the state.
This position was made known during a high-level courtesy visit by the RMRDC delegation on Thursday, 16th April, 2026, led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Muhammad Gambo-Yaro, as part of ongoing strategic engagements to strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
At the center of discussions was the cassava processing/value chain proposal earlier submitted to RMRDC Headquarters. Addressing the delegation, the Commissioner stressed that the initiative is designed to facilitate the acquisition of modern cassava processing equipment, which will be made accessible to local producers at minimal cost. He noted that the move is expected to Boost agricultural productivity, create employment opportunities and Enhance value addition across the cassava value chain.
The Commissioner further revealed that the Ministry is currently awaiting feedback from RMRDC Headquarters, while reiterating the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote agro-industrial development.
In addition, the meeting highlighted RMRDC’s proposal to establish Raw Materials Display Centres across Local Government Areas, including a strategic plan to site one within the Ministry to serve as an investment promotion hub. The Commissioner endorsed the initiative, describing it as a vital platform for showcasing Zamfara’s resource endowment and attracting investors.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr. Gambo reaffirmed RMRDC’s mandate of promoting sustainable industrial growth through the effective utilization of local raw materials, noting that the cassava initiative and display centres are key drivers for economic transformation in the state.
He also pledged to intensify follow-up on the cassava proposal to ensure timely action and implementation.
The engagement ended on a strong note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained collaboration in advancing industrial development and economic growth in Zamfara State.
As momentum builds around cassava processing and value addition, stakeholders are optimistic that the initiative will serve as a catalyst for job creation, increased income, and broader industrialization across the state.
