As part of its commitment to promote awareness on Nigeria’s abundant raw materials and their industrial potential, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Lagos Coordination Office, hosted students of the Green Centre Academy, Ikeja, Lagos, on a sensitization visit to its Resource Centre at RMRDC house, Lekki, Lagos, on Friday, 26th June, 2026. The visit provided the students with firsthand knowledge of the Council’s mandate, programmes, and the critical role of raw materials development in driving industrialization, value addition, and economic diversification.
Welcoming the students, the Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Uchechukwu Ojiakor, highlighted the Council’s statutory responsibility of promoting the development, optimal utilization and value addition of Nigeria’s raw materials to support industrial growth, import substitution, wealth creation, and sustainable economic development. She encouraged the students to embrace research, innovation and entrepreneurship by exploring opportunities within Nigeria’s vast natural resource base.

In his remarks, the Team Lead and Programme Director of Green Centre Academy, Dr. Darlington Okafor, commended RMRDC for its unwavering commitment to capacity building and national development. He noted that the Academy has maintained a productive relationship with the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and its agencies since its establishment in 2011, particularly in facilitating academic and professional development opportunities in Natural Medicine. He expressed appreciation to the Council for creating a platform that bridges knowledge with practical experience.
The students were later taken on a guided tour of the RMRDC Resource Centre by Dr. (Mrs.) Moyofoluwa Ogunyemi and Mr. Yunus Abdulazeez. During the tour, the students were exposed to a wide range of indigenous raw materials, value-added products, research publications, technical reports and innovative technologies developed to promote the commercial utilization of local resources. The practical session offered participants valuable insights into the Council’s efforts in research, technology development, industrialization, and the promotion of indigenous products.

The visit also featured an interactive session where students engaged RMRDC officials on the industrial, economic & medicinal applications of indigenous raw materials, as well as opportunities for research and value addition. Responding to the questions, Mrs. Ojiakor provided practical explanations on the Council’s programmes and initiatives, while Dr. Godwin, Director of the Herbal Department, Green Centre Academy, shared expert perspectives on the medicinal properties of indigenous plants and their relevance to natural healthcare and sustainable medicinal practices.
