In its ongoing effort to promote industrial growth and strengthen collaboration with the private sector, the Sokoto State Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) recently carried out a familiarization and industrial visit to Heekmah Rice Mill, one of the emerging rice processing and packaging companies in Sokoto State. The visit aimed to assess the company’s operations, explore potential areas of partnership, and identify challenges affecting the local rice production value chain.
The RMRDC delegation was led by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Nadia Bawa Abubakar, and were warmly received by the management of Heekmah Rice Mill, Mr Achan Kenneth, both parties discussed opportunities for collaboration in key areas such as local raw material sourcing, quality assurance, and capacity building for smallholder farmers. RMRDC emphasized its mandate to promote the utilization of local raw materials through research, innovation, and industrial linkages. Mr. Achan expressed readiness to work with the Council to improve processing standards and enhance product competitiveness within the market.
The company sources paddy from both local farmers and the open market, ensuring flexibility and inclusiveness in procurement. Upon arrival at the facility, all raw materials undergo quality checks before processing. The company maintains a standard warehouse for crop storage and utilizes a weighbridge for verifying deliveries, reflecting a commitment to operational efficiency and product quality.
The visit further reinforced RMRDC Sokoto’s commitment to fostering industrial development, supporting local value chains, and strengthening partnerships with emerging private sector operators in the state.
