In a move set to revolutionize agricultural development in Bauchi State, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Bauchi State Coordinating Office recently conducted a pivotal visit to the Bauchi State College of Agriculture (BASCOA). This collaborative effort aims to invigorate the sweet potato value chain and unlock new opportunities within the agricultural sector. While underscoring RMRDC’s critical role of research, innovation, and skilled manpower in maximizing the potential of sweet potato production and processing.
The RMRDC delegation led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Turaki Wambai were warmly received by BASCOA Provost Dr. Ahmed Isa Ahmed. Mr. Turaki intimated the provost on RMRDC numerous raw materials value addition efforts and further discussed the upcoming investment forum on sweet potato. He explained that the forum is poised to stimulate economic growth and create significant opportunities in the region’s agricultural landscape. He pointed on the need for BASCOA to participate actively in it.
“This partnership holds significant potential for advancing the sweet potato value chain and contributing to the overall agricultural development in Bauchi State,” stated Mr. Turaki Wambai, the State Coordinator of the RMRDC Bauchi State Office. “We are confident that by combining RMRDC’S mandate with BASCOA’s expertise, we can significantly advance the sweet potato value chain and uplift our communities.”
Dr. Ahmed, expressing BASCOA’s strong interest in the partnership, reaffirmed the college’s commitment to agricultural advancement in Bauchi State. He highlighted the institution’s expertise and resources, emphasizing the potential for mutually beneficial collaborations. The visit successfully laid the groundwork for future cooperation, identifying key areas such as joint research projects on sweet potato cultivation and processing, technical support for farmers, knowledge sharing through workshops, and student engagement in research and development.
Furthermore, BASCOA pledged full support for the upcoming investment forum, committing to disseminate information, encourage staff and student participation, and showcase relevant research and innovations.
This engagement signifies a crucial step towards a more robust sweet potato value chain and overall agricultural prosperity in Bauchi State. Both organizations are set to engage in further discussions to formalize their collaboration and strategize for the investment forum.
