The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainable industrialization in Nigeria through strategic partnerships and actionable programs.
Speaking at the Nigeria Manufacturing & Equipment / Nigerian Raw Materials 2025 (NME/ NIRAM) Exposition, jointly organised by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), held from August 5th to 7th in Lagos, UNIDO Director and Country Representative to Nigeria, Ambassador Phibert Johnson, stressed the organization’s focused efforts in driving the nation’s industrial transformation.
The event carried the theme “Accelerating Sustainable Manufacturing Through Cutting-Edge Equipment and Technology Solutions.”
Ambassador Johnson noted that UNIDO has demonstrated a practical commitment to Nigeria’s industrial growth by facilitating the signing of the Programme for Country Partnership in Industrial Development Fund between UNIDO and the Nigerian government.
“This commitment is geared towards forging partnerships that will make industrialization a reality in this country. After signing two critical agreements, I strongly believe the time to take action is now. it is no longer business as usual,” he declared.
He further emphasized that sustainable industrialization must move beyond rhetoric to tangible action, underpinned by collective efforts that transform Nigeria’s economy from a trade-dependent model to one that produces and adds value to its abundant resources.
Highlighting the role of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ambassador Johnson described the body as “critical” in the industrialization drive.
“MAN is essential in this enterprise. Its effectiveness in fostering interactions within the industrial ecosystem will determine how well we can create true value from the resources we have. If done right, it will accelerate sustainable manufacturing through cutting-edge equipment and technology solutions, moving us further along the path of economic transformation,” he said.
Ambassador Johnson also commended the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) for their commitment to driving inclusive and sustainable industrialization through the NIRAM EXPO platform.
