The Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Akwa Ibom State Coordinating Office joins the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Akwa Ibom State office in engaging critical stakeholders on oil palm development in Akwa Ibom state for export.
In a one-day workshop held on the 26th day of June, 2025 with the theme “Strategic Engagement of Critical Stakeholders on oil palm development for Export”, the state coordinator NEPC, Mr. Idongesit Essien confirmed that it is on record that Nigeria is lagging behind in palm oil production whereas the Country supplies oil palm seedlings to leading countries in palm oil production like Malaysia.
He however, urged participants, who spread across the oil palm value chain sectors, to group themselves into different clusters in order to be able to tackle the challenges of palm oil production in the state.
The State Coordinator RMRDC, Mr. Anietie Akpan, expressed that there is need to identify the total number of stakeholders engaging in oil palm value chain development. For him, such a comprehensive data-base of oil palm farmers, processors and marketers is a necessary factor in enhancing an effective oil palm development cluster formation in the state.
The event climaxed where the state coordinator NEPC, Mr. Idongesit Essien indicated interest in retrieving a comprehensive list of all stakeholders engaging in oil palm value chain development from the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He placed the mandate of retrieving the data on the shoulders of Mr. Sunday Ibanga, a member of a one-time committee on oil palm development in the state, who promised to ensure that the list of all stakeholders in oil palm development in the state is retrieved accordingly.
