The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), in collaboration with the Tropics Derma Research and Training Institute (TDRTI), has concluded a free dermatological skin analysis programme across Kwara State as part of a nationwide campaign to improve skin health and promote safer skincare practices.
The programme, which ran from May 12 to 26, 2025, was conducted simultaneously across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. It aimed to address common skin conditions in Nigeria’s tropical climate using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, while encouraging the development of locally made skincare solutions based on scientific data.
In Kwara State, the campaign was flagged off at the RMRDC State Coordinating Office in Ilorin under the leadership of the State Coordinator, Mrs. Adewumi L.O. The skin assessment exercises were conducted by a Senior Scientific Officer Mr. Ogunsola V.O. and Mrs. Jimoh Oyesigi, who led a field team in offering free AI-powered skin checks to residents across selected areas.
Participants received quick skin evaluations using smart devices that analyzed skin hydration, pigmentation, oil levels, elasticity, and texture. The data collected will help researchers understand common skin challenges in tropical environments and support the creation of effective skincare products made from natural raw materials sourced locally.

Residents who took part in the programme expressed appreciation for the initiative and described it as timely and informative. Many welcomed the idea of having skincare solutions designed specifically for Nigerian skin, based on real data rather than imported products that often fail to meet local needs.
The RMRDC and TDRTI partnership is expected to support long-term improvements in skincare, public health, and the growth of Nigeria’s wellness and cosmetics industries. With the success recorded in Kwara State, similar programmes will continue across other parts of the country in the coming months.
