The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and Tropical Derma Research and Training Institute (TDRTI) launched a 10-day nationwide free skin analysis program. Held on May 13, 2025, in Calabar, Cross River State. The initiative targeted individuals aged 2 and above, promoting evidence-based skincare solutions using local raw materials.
This initiative is aimed at revolutionising the skin care sector as part of RMRDC’s mandate of undertaking research and development on local raw materials for industrial growth. The exercise showcased the use and importance of AI-powered skin analysis and was a great experience for participants to key into the event and enjoy many skin care benefits.

The program gained momentum in the State with many other skincare outlets like Thalia Seal of Beauty, Wofia Angel’s Skin Hub, and Arikpo’s Beauty Hub participating. Other persons were also part of the process, such as Churches, schools, markets, and so on, all gathered to support the initiative.
The Cross-River skin analysis program, led by Mrs. Gladys Aiyegbeye Ekpo-Ita, who was taking the testing, educated participants on the benefits of the exercise. The initiative aims to assess skin health and gather data for eco-friendly skincare products using Nigeria’s natural resources. Mrs. Ekpo-Ita emphasized the Director-General, Prof. Nnanyelugo M. Ike-Muonso’s efforts to promote the mandate of the Council. She said the Council is committed to using safe, natural raw materials in skincare products, highlighting the dangers of harmful chemicals that can lead to skin cancers and other illnesses.
Participants praised RMRDC and TDRTI for the program, noting that the skin analysis provided valuable insights into their skin types and how to maintain healthy skin. The professional analysis process concluded with 602 skins analyzed in Cross River State, paving the way for tailored skincare solutions.
RMRDC reaffirms its commitment to harnessing local raw materials for effective skincare products and advancing research and development to drive industrial growth in Nigeria.
