In an effort to enhance skincare awareness and solutions for Nigerians, a United States-based skincare research organization Tropics Derma Research & Training Institute (TDRTI), in partnership with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), has successfully conducted a 10-day free skin analysis campaign across Abia State.
The initiative, aimed at helping Nigerians uncover their true skin types and make informed choices about skincare products, was led by Chinazum Opara, a trained skin analysis expert who received her specialized training in Abuja for the project. Alongside her dedicated team Miss Opara, facilitated the outreach, targeting various public institutions in Abia State.
Institutions visited during the campaign included Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, School of Nursing Amachara, School of Nursing Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, Special Education Center for the Blind, Umuahia, the Abia State Judiciary Commission, Abia State Pension Board, and several others. Participants received personalized, quick, and painless skin check-ups using smart diagnostic technology which provided instant insights into the participants’ skin types, along with tailored skincare recommendations.
According to Chinazum Opara, “The aim is not just to improve skin health but to gather vital data that will support the development of skincare products that are tailored specifically for tropical skin, especially the Nigerian skin types. “We are moving away from one-size-fits-all solutions to more data-driven, inclusive skincare.”
During the training, TDRTI had emphasized that the collected data would contribute to national skincare research, enabling the design of better products for Nigerians.
The exercise, she further added, is aimed at dispelling myths around skincare and promote evidence-based practices through expert consultations and public education.
The campaign was widely appreciated by participants, many of whom expressed gratitude for the opportunity to understand their skin needs better without any cost or discomfort.
As part of its ongoing mission, TDRTI and its partners extended this initiative to other states across Nigeria, with hopes of triggering a national shift towards scientifically informed skincare habits and products.
