The Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), Abuja branch, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of Raw Materials Research and Development (RMRDC), Prof. Nnanyelugo M. Ike-Muonso, at his office in Maitama, Abuja, yesterday, September 25th, 2024, to discuss bridging the gap in the production chain in the fish processing and development sub-sector in Nigeria.
The National President FISON Dr. Ebinimi Ansa, represented by the Chairman LOC FISON 39th Annual Conference, Mr. Aderemi Abioye, and other members of the LOC during their visit, informed that the society wish to partner with the RMRDC to advance fisheries and aquaculture development in Nigeria.
He disclosed that the nation, as it stands today, imports feed for the fishery and aquaculture industry, even when all the raw materials used for the production of the feed is grown locally. He said that this partnership is necessary to correct the anomalies of importing feed which can be produced locally, the role of RMRDC is critical in this regard, being that the Council is the office of the federal government mandated to promote indigenous raw materials resources for national growth.

The Chairman who invited the Council to be part of the 39th annual conference of FISON holding in Abuja on 28th October, 2024, further noted that in recognition of the DG’s outstanding performance and demonstration of commitment, will be conferred with the distinguished Award of Fellow of FISON; the apex non-profit professional body seeking to promote fisheries and aquaculture industry in Nigeria.
Responding, the DG RMRDC commended the efforts of FISON is promoting national economy. He said that the nation is indeed blessed with abundant raw materials resources which when harnessed with do the nation good.
He did not only accept the award by FISON, he also disclosed that the RMRDC will partner with the Society for sustainable development in Fishery and aquaculture, describing the sector as an essential one with diverse raw materials potentials.
