The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Ogun State Coordinating Office, has strengthened its collaboration with the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), Abeokuta Centre, following a technical visit aimed at promoting honey value addition and supporting enterprise development within the apiculture sector.
The visit, led by the Ogun State Coordinator, Mr. Rabiu Basiru, was designed to reinforce existing institutional collaboration and assess opportunities for expanding honey-based industrial activities.
Speaking during the meeting, the Centre Manager of NBTI, Mr. Gabriel Oguntayo, recalled previous collaborative programmes between both organizations and expressed appreciation for the relationship that has existed over the years. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to sustaining the partnership and supporting initiatives that encourage technology incubation and enterprise growth.

In his remarks, Mr. Rabiu Basiru highlighted the Council’s mandate of promoting the development, utilization, and commercialization of Nigeria’s raw material resources through value addition, technology, acquisition, and research commercialization. He stated that the Council remains focused on strengthening industrial development and creating opportunities for local enterprises.
The RMRDC team also visited the facilities of Alpha Cedar Corporate Company Limited, where the Executive Director, Mrs. Folashade Victoria, conducted an inspection tour of the company’s beekeeping and honey-processing operations.
Mrs. Victoria explained the significance of honey and other bee products such as beeswax, propolis, and royal jelly, emphasizing their wide applications in food processing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, healthcare, and related industries. She also highlighted major challenges affecting the enterprise, including climate change, insecurity, inadequate irrigation facilities, limited access to finance, and insufficient modern equipment.

During the inspection of the apiary and processing facilities, the RMRDC delegation identified strong opportunities for expansion through improved processing technologies, quality assurance systems, packaging, branding, and diversification into additional bee products.
The visit further underscored the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in promoting local raw materials development, technology commercialization, job creation, and sustainable industrial growth in Ogun State and across Nigeria.
