Officials of the Bureau of Code of Conduct (BCC) have conducted a working visit to the Benue State Coordinating Office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council to sensitise and promote compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The team were received by the Benue State Coordinator of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Mrs Abel-Ugbir Iveren Jessica, at the office on Monday, May 11, 2026. Speaking during the presentation, the lead representative of the Bureau, Mrs. Elizabeth Onah, explained that Section 15(1) of Part I of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution mandates all public officers to declare their assets within the stipulated timelines.
She further provided detailed explanations on the sections of Form CCB1, including personal information, assets within and outside Nigeria, liabilities, and interests in companies. Mrs Onah also highlighted the consequences of non-compliance, noting that penalties could include vacation of office, disqualification from holding public office, and forfeiture of undeclared assets.
Another staff member of the Bureau of Code of Conduct, Mrs. Helen Iyaji, explained that the submission process requires that completed forms be signed before a High Court for Oaths or a Notary Public and submitted through the designated RMRDC liaison officer within one month.
The session featured an interactive question-and-answer segment during which staff members sought clarification on issues relating to joint ownership of assets, declaration of spouses’ assets, and submission timelines
During the sensitisation exercise, the delegation educated members of staff on the legal requirement for public officers to declare their assets upon assumption of office, every four years while in service, and at the end of their tenure. The officials also guided participants on the proper process for completing the Assets Declaration Form CCB1 and addressed common challenges and misconceptions associated with the exercise.
The Benue State Coordinator of the RMRDC, Mrs. Abel-Ugbir Iveren Jessica, commended the team for the wonderful, engaging session. She said RMRDC is committed to complying with the rules of engagement. She noted that the session had enhanced staff awareness and preparedness to comply with the asset declaration requirements and urged all staff of the office to comply accordingly.
