In a significant step towards promoting investment and industrial growth in the sweet potato sector, the Osun State office of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) recently hosted a strategic meeting with the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI). The meeting, held ahead of the upcoming Potato Value Chain Investors Forum, brought together key stakeholders to discuss crucial aspects of the event.
Led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Adeyemi S.A., the RMRDC team welcomed the NRCRI State Coordinator, Dr. (Mrs.) Akinbo Ajifowowe, to brainstorm on the forum’s theme, resource persons, and other key logistics. Mr. Adeyemi S.A. emphasized the importance of having expert resource persons and stated that professionals from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Bank of Industry (BOI), and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife would be valuable additions to the forum. He also highlighted that the team had discussed and finalized a theme for the Sweet Potato Value Chain Investors Forum, “Strategies for Sustainable Investment and Industrial Utilization,” which would effectively capture the forum’s goals and objectives.

Dr. (Mrs.) Akinbo Ajifowowe shared her insights, stating, “For the Potato Value Chain Investors Forum to be successful, we need to showcase the vast potential of sweet potatoes in driving industrial growth and creating wealth. I propose that we focus on highlighting innovative uses of sweet potatoes, such as in food processing, animal feed, and bio-industry applications. By doing so, we can attract investors who are interested in tapping into the economic benefits of this versatile crop. Additionally, I am happy to contribute resource persons from NRCRI who possess deep expertise in sweet potato production, processing, and utilization. We will also provide sweet potato stems for demonstration purposes and gift packages for participants, which will serve as a practical showcase of the crop’s potential.”
The meeting also provided an opportunity for both teams to finalize the logistics and arrangements for the forum. With a clear plan in place, the stage is now set for a successful event that will bring together stakeholders, investors, and industry experts to unlock the economic potential of the sweet potato value chain.
This strategic meeting successfully laid the groundwork for a collaborative and impactful investors’ forum aimed at unlocking the economic potential of the sweet potato value chain. With the stage set for a successful event, stakeholders are eagerly anticipating the Potato Value Chain Investors Forum, which promises to be a catalyst for growth and development in the sector.
