DG RMRDC Urges Newly Elected Staff Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Executives to Drive New Changes

Following the election of new Executive Committee for the Staff Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) to steer the affairs of the Society for the next 2 years, the Director-General Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso has congratulated the new executives and urged them to do their best in building a vibrant society that will ensure inclusiveness of all members especially those in the state offices. Prof Ike-Muonso charged the newly elected Executives to as a matter of priority revisit identified lacunae in the Cooperative Society’s Bye-law with a view to amending the Constitution to closing the identified gaps and make the Cooperative more inclusive of all members.

He emphasized that any member who is contributing financially should not be denied the opportunity to participate in critical decision making process such as voting during elections.

The DG made this known when the new Executive Members paid a courtesy visit to his office to introduce members of the newly elected Executives and also lay out their plans to build a robust and vibrant RMRDC Cooperative Society that members would be proud of.

Prof. Ike-Muonso further expressed his optimism that the new leadership would succeed by building on the existing foundation and deliver on their promise following the proven character of some members in the team. He promised to join the membership of the Cooperative Society as soon as the new EXCO was inaugurated.

The President-elect, Mr. Festus Obot an Assistant Director with the Directorate of Corporate Affairs (DCA), who led the team, thanked the DG and assured him of the executive’s commitment to transform the RMRDC Cooperative Society to an enviable one and strongly pleaded for his support.

The new executives came on board after the election which took place on the 14th January, 2025, at the Council’s headquarters in Abuja, with a vibrant team to drive the affairs during the tenure.

The newly elected Executives are as follows;

  1. Mr. Festus Obot – President;
  2. Mr. Ache Paul – Vice President;
  3. Mrs. Adaora Adibe – Secretary General;
  4. Miss Rosemary Igogo – Treasurer;
  5. Miss Igbaotun Victoria Awoleyin – Financial Secretary;
  6. Ms. Julie Ogboyi – Assistant Secretary General;
  7. Mr. Abubakar Tahir- Assistant Financial Secretary.

This team was elected after a transparent and competitive process handled by the electoral committee Chaired by Mr. Humphrey Ubimago . The election which was generally adjudged as free, fair, credible and peaceful witnessed active participation from members, signaling a robust democratic culture within the Cooperative.

The President-elect, Mr. Obot Festus thanked the DG for the confidence reposed in the team and went further to outline an ambitious vision for the Cooperative Society. He stated that his focus will be on addressing identified gaps in the Byelaw, improving loan accessibility to members, expanding investment opportunities, and introducing welfare schemes that address the needs of all members irrespective of their location.

The President-elect further gave reassurance of securing members money and creating wealth for the Cooperative Society.

As the new executives assume office when inaugurated, the stakes are high as members of the RMRDC Staff Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society had earlier expressed hope for a prosperous and more inclusive Society in the future under the new leadership.
